Lunawood is a pioneer in decorative wood solutions, with 25 years of expertise in the thermal modification of wood. Their mission is to reconnect people with nature by bringing the calming essence of the forest into urban environments.
Lunawood ThermoWood® cladding, decking, battens, and interior panel systems were applied in House Duplio, a three-generation semi-detached residence designed by SAIKA Design and located in Tuusula, Finland.
Completed in 2020 and presented at the Tuusula Housing Fair, the project was conceived as a compact and efficient family home that combines contemporary architectural expression with durable material solutions suitable for long-term residential use.
For the exterior envelope, the architects specified façade cladding profiles with concealed fastening to create a uniform surface appearance. The factory-finished cladding contributes to consistent installation quality and reduces on-site finishing requirements. Outdoor living areas were completed with Luna SHP Profix 3 40 × 185 decking boards, installed using hidden clips to achieve a continuous walking surface without visible fasteners.
Additional exterior elements include fencing constructed from black brushed ThermoWood profiles to provide privacy for the pool area, as well as a pergola structure formed with Luna Post and Luna SHP 42 × 68 battens, reinforcing the integration of outdoor spaces with the overall architectural composition.
Inside the residence, thermally modified wood was used extensively across ceilings, feature walls, and wellness areas to establish visual continuity between interior and exterior environments. The entrance foyer incorporates Luna Triple 32 × 140 panels installed on the ceiling to create the appearance of individual battens while enabling faster installation and consistent alignment. Feature walls in the bedroom and guest room use 3D-look panels, introducing texture and spatial variation within private areas.
In the sauna facilities, Luna Dual 26 × 142 panels were installed as wall cladding, complemented by Luna SHP Sauna 26 × 92 profiles used for seating surfaces designed to withstand frequent exposure to heat and humidity.
The architectural concept emphasizes efficient spatial planning and multi-generational living, with a layout designed to minimize circulation areas while maximizing usable space and access to outdoor terraces and courtyard areas. The use of Lunawood ThermoWood® across façades, outdoor structures, and interior surfaces supports consistent material performance while contributing to a cohesive residential environment.
By integrating façade systems, outdoor elements, and interior finishes within a unified material strategy, the project demonstrates how wood-based construction components can support durability, functional flexibility, and long-term residential comfort.
