Lunawood is a pioneer in decorative wood solutions, with 25 years of expertise in the thermal modification of wood. Their mission is to reconnect people with nature by bringing the calming essence of the forest into urban environments.
Lunawood ThermoWood® cladding and decking profiles were applied in Lahofer Winery, a wine production and visitor complex designed by Chybik + Kristof Architects & Urban Designers and located in Dobšice u Znojma, Czech Republic.
Completed in 2020, the project forms part of a growing winery established in 2003 that today manages more than 430 hectares of vineyards and produces approximately 800,000 bottles of wine annually. The architectural concept combines production, hospitality, and public functions within a single structure that includes a visitor centre, tasting hall, and an amphitheatre positioned on the roof.
For the exterior envelope and outdoor circulation areas, the architects specified Luna SHP profiles, 19 × 92 and 26 × 92, installed as façade cladding and exterior decking elements. The use of thermally modified wood contributes to a consistent material language across the complex while supporting long-term performance in exposed outdoor conditions. The cladding and decking systems were selected to provide dimensional stability and durability while maintaining a natural surface appearance suitable for a building that accommodates both industrial operations and public use.
The architectural design was developed to integrate the winery sensitively into the surrounding Moravian landscape. The building form follows the geometry of the vineyard terrain, with a colonnade of arches aligned with the rows of vines and a roof structure shaped to accommodate an amphitheatre that reflects the natural slope of the site. These spatial and structural decisions reinforce the relationship between the building and the agricultural context in which it operates.
Within this framework, the use of Lunawood ThermoWood® supports both functional and experiential objectives. The material contributes to a durable exterior envelope capable of withstanding long-term environmental exposure while providing a tactile surface appropriate for visitor-oriented spaces such as terraces, walkways, and gathering areas.
By combining production facilities with public amenities and landscape-responsive design, the project demonstrates how façade and decking systems can support the long-term performance and spatial identity of contemporary winery architecture.
