Presented to projects that anticipate and address future challenges, the WAFX Award celebrates the “most forward-looking architectural concepts”. X-Space, an urban fabric regeneration project in Dubai, winner of the Smart Cities Category was selected to take on the overall WAFX 2019 prize.
Mouaz Abouzaid and Islam El Mashtooly have designed a linear park for Cairo that follows along the Magra al Ayun aqueduct. Called LifeLine, the project explores how to reimagine urban life for this important line through the city. As a way to ensure the waterway shows the future of Cairo while honoring its past, the project was designed to connect the city's history and its culture through urban regeneration.
Architects Mouaz Abouzaid and Dima Faraj has designed an urban regeneration project and greenway for Dubai. Dubbed X-Space, the project aims to stitch together the city across Sheikh Zayed Road, the main highway that runs through the United Arab Emirates. Inspired by desert dunes and the movement of sand sweeping across paved roads, the proposal includes one kilometer of new public spaces and green areas to give urban space back to the city and its people.
