HAO: The Latest Architecture and News

The hotel concept for the five-star hotel in Tianjin, China incorporates the traditional hotel amenities such as conference rooms, restaurants, and fitness areas with a vibrant gallery for art and changing exhibitions showcasing local and international artists. Designed by HAO/Holm Architecture Office, the building orients the building mass to create better views towards downtown Tianjin while curving back part of the volume to create a covered area for the hotel entrance and drop-off. The design for the Qingdao Master Plan, designed by HAO/Holm Architecture Office + Archiland, seeks to further develop and expand the existing elements of the city. Situated within the city of Qingdao and conveniently located five minutes from the airport, the site is divided into three main areas. To take advantage of this, the design takes its starting point around a sunken cultural path that leads visitors through the entire programmatic experience of the new master plan. HAO (Holm Architecture Office), along with five other New York design offices, have been invited to participate in the re-design of the Coleman Oval Skate Park and the master planning of the Coleman Oval Park. The competition is sponsored by Architecture for Humanity.

The Coleman Oval Park, situated partly under the Manhattan Bridge, has long suffered from lack of exposure, little upkeep, and the “off the beaten path” factor. More images and architects’ description after the break.

Holm Architecture Office (HAO) recently shared with us their entry for the Pulsen Community Center in Balling, Denmark. The Pulsen Community Center unites an array of health and sports-oriented facilities under one roof. A combination of baths, fitness areas, doctors’ offices and community gathering spaces, the design creates a unique new building type that aims to promote interaction and creativity among the citizens of Balling.
