MEDS Workshop
“Meetings of Design Students” is an international workshop organized each summer in a different country. Every year it gathers around 200 participants associated with various fields of art, design, and architecture. In a span of two weeks, guided by experienced tutors, the participants create and construct group projects, getting in touch with different approaches to design and mastering their skills in a wide range of building techniques. Each project combines practical, educational and cultural aspects, creating a meaningful impact on the space and tackling both current issues, and long-standing local traditions.
Previous workshops have taken place in Turkey, Slovenia, Portugal, Ireland, Serbia, Romania, Belgium, Lebanon and Greece.
Revival
The theme of the edition “Revival” explores the urban and architectural context of Silesia as a space of mines, forges and factories which contribute to a distinctive regional identity. For many years now the region has been undergoing a gradual transformation. Thus, one of the main challenges of the workshop is to conduct a revitalization of the social mentality by creating meaningful projects with an attractive visual representation. “Revival” aims to revive what has already been defined.
Revival” means bringing back to life and the importance of the long-lasting life of our planet will also be implemented in terms of ecology, by the use of recycled and upcycled materials. The workshop will bring back the vivid life of public and semi-public spaces by engaging local communities and attracting tourists. And, above all, it will help the Silesian region to revive its ample context and exceptional identity in the eyes of both locals and visitors.
