In the documentary Jens Jensen The Living Green, filmmaker Carey Lundin explores the innovative ideas of Jens Jensen to make the modern city livable for all. Dallas Architecture Forum, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing public education about architecture, design and the urban environment, will continue its 2015-2016 Panel Discussion Series on March 22, 2016 with “Village Redux: Co-Housing and Pocket Neighborhoods,” moderated by Nan Ellin, Founding Dean of the College of Architecture, Planning and Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Arlington.

Dallas Architecture Forum, a non-profit organization for everyone interested in learning about and improving the architecture, design, landscape and urban fabric of the North Texas region is pleased to continue its 2015-16 Lecture Season with award-winning architect Marc Fornes. He is the founder of THEVERYMANY™, a New York-based studio engaging Art and Architecture through systematic research and development into applied Computer Science and Digital Fabrication. Fornes creates complex, curvilinear self-supported structures located in France, Canada and the United States. His work is in the permanent collections of the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the FRAC Centre in Orleans, France and in many private collections. He has created private residences and Pop-Up stores for such well-known designers as Louis Vuitton and Irene Neuwirth.

The advancement of contemporary technology is changing the way we study the world around us. The way we describe and understand cities is being radically transformed, along with the tools we use to envision and impact their physical form.

These new technologies allow us to understand the built environment differently. The city is no longer a static collection of built objects, but can instead be understood as a series of social, environmental, and informational networks. Can we this new knowledge to positively impact the city of the future? Can these technologies allow us to rectify the mistakes of the past? What new possibilities exist within their creative use?

Dean Judith DiMaio of New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) School of Architecture and Design and Associate Professor and Exhibitions Curator Naomi Frangos, are pleased to announce: UNDERSTANDING PLACE, an exhibition featuring internationally renowned Philadelphia architecture firm KieranTimberlake’s Dhaka Design-Research within University of Pennsylvania’s School of Design Masters of Architecture program.

This two-day symposium is co-sponsored with the MIT 2016 Committee and the MIT Department of Architecture. It will examine architecture and cultures at MIT and their influences on education and student life on campus. Speakers, including David Adjaye and Hashim Sarkis, will explore the prescient design of the original buildings and the interdisciplinary, innovative research that they fomented, as well as imagine the teaching and maker spaces of the future.

A Japanese Constellation: Toyo Ito, SANAA, and Beyond focuses on the work of architects and designers orbiting Pritzker Prize winners Toyo Ito and SANAA. MoMA’s first presentation dedicated solely to Japanese practitioners, the exhibition spotlights a small cluster of contemporary Japanese architects working within the larger field, exploring their formal inventiveness and close professional relationships to frame a radical model of practice in the 21st century.

Investigate the relationship between landscape architecture and visual arts and explore how to use landscape architecture to teach interdisciplinary lessons. Discover the work of landscape architecture firm Oehme, van Sweden & Associates in the exhibition The New American Garden, visit a nearby site designed by the firm, and create a photographic artwork of your own.

Alan Ward, FASLA, masterfully uses the photographic process to see and interpret the essence of designed landscapes. In this program, he describes his process for capturing space, texture, bright light, and dappled shade in mostly black-and-white images, challenging us to see landscapes with new eyes. Re-Ball! is an open design competition to turn 650,000 3-inch, white, translucent plastic balls into a site-specific installation in the Dupont Underground’s 14,000-square-foot east platform. The balls were previously part of the National Building Museum’s blockbuster summer destination The BEACH. The Brazilian artist Roberto Burle Marx (1909-1994) is one of the most prominent landscape architects of the twentieth century. His famous projects range from the remarkable mosaic pavements on the seaside avenue of Rio de Janeiro’s Copacabana Beach to the multitude of gardens that embellish Brasilia, one of several-large scale projects he executed in collaboration with famed architect Oscar Niemeyer. Although his landscape design work is renowned worldwide, the artist’s work in other media remains little known. Roberto Burle Marx: Brazilian Modernist therefore explores the richness and breadth of the artist’s oeuvre—from landscape architecture to painting, from sculpture to theater design, from tapestries to jewelry.
