Beam Stick Lamps in Ölmühle Restaurant | OLEV

OLEV is an Italian designer lighting brand specializing in LED lamps that combine artisanal craftsmanship with intelligent lighting technology. Beam Stick Nuance and Beam Stick Metal pendant lamps from OLEV were selected to illuminate Ölmühle, a restaurant located in Hattersheim am Main, Germany.

The Ölmühle building dates to 1710, when it was constructed as an oil mill. After years of disuse as a commercial property, it was converted into a restaurant by interior design studio NoBLa, which reorganized the historic structure into several distinct dining areas while retaining the original red brick walls and exposed oak beam ceiling throughout. The interior design connects the former grinding room with a newer extension, with the bar serving as a transition point between the two. The project received the German Design Award 2024 and was featured in the publication "Die schönsten Restaurants, Hotels und Bars 2024." The 270-square-meter dining room was photographed by Martin Baitinger.

OLEV lamps were introduced to bring contemporary design into balance with the building's raw industrial character. In the center of the main dining room, clusters of Beam Stick Nuance pendant lamps hang at varying heights above the dining tables, their mouth-blown glass bodies diffusing warm light both downward and laterally—a counterpoint to the heaviness of the brick and timber above. Along the edges of the room, where smaller tables required more precise illumination, Beam Stick Metal pendants provide a tighter, more focused beam. The combination of the two models allows the space to be lit with nuance: atmospheric and sculptural at the center, functional and refined at the perimeter.
