Europerfil develops and manufactures metal profiles, sandwich panels, and construction systems for building envelopes. The company offers a wide range of steel and metal cladding solutions designed for use across diverse building typologies, focusing on performance, durability, and architectural integration.
Europerfil's Entropía metal profile was applied in the renovation of the Toledo Gymnastics Pavilion, a project that underwent a comprehensive transformation and demonstrates how a contemporary architectural approach can enhance everyday public sports infrastructure.
The project, led by Estudio AIA Arquitectos Ingenieros Asociados, combines architectural design, functional improvements, and sustainability strategies to upgrade an existing facility and adapt it to current urban and environmental demands. The intervention forms part of the municipal investment plan associated with Toledo’s designation as European City of Sport 2025.
The pavilion is located within Parque de las Tres Culturas, a consolidated green area that defines its immediate context. The renovation aims to strengthen the relationship between the building and its surroundings while improving the facility's visual identity. The project includes the removal of the former asbestos roof, the reorganization of interior spaces, and the incorporation of new energy systems, transforming the pavilion into a contemporary and accessible sports venue with more than 3,000 m2 dedicated to athletic use.

A key element of the intervention is the new external envelope, developed using the Entropía metal profile from Europerfil. Characterized by its irregular and asymmetrical geometry, the profile was applied as the main façade cladding system, generating a visual effect similar to a barcode pattern. This composition creates a dynamic perception of the building, with changing light and shadow conditions throughout the day, contributing to a more expressive and recognizable urban presence.
The Entropía profile was selectively perforated, particularly in areas aligned with window openings to allow natural light to enter the interior spaces while maintaining visual continuity in the façade design. As a result, the cladding system plays both a formal and functional role, improving interior comfort and supporting passive environmental performance.
The selected copper-toned finish establishes a visual dialogue with the surrounding vegetation, especially the Virginia creeper garden that borders the pavilion. This chromatic relationship integrates the building with its natural environment as the seasons change, while maintaining a contemporary architectural expression.
From a sustainability perspective, the renovation targets near-zero energy consumption. The project integrates aerothermal climate systems supported by photovoltaic panels installed on the roof, high-efficiency LED lighting, solar control devices, and improved landscaped areas. These measures reduce operational energy demand and contribute to long-term environmental performance.
Beyond its technical upgrades, the renewed pavilion functions as a community-oriented facility. The project enhances accessibility, improves spatial organization, and provides updated infrastructure that supports sports practice, social interaction, and urban regeneration, positioning the building as a valuable public asset for the city of Toledo.
