The Center for Architecture is now accepting for applications for the 2019 Stewardson Keefe LeBrun Travel Grant. The grant provides single or multiple awards of up to $25,000 for early to mid-level architects who wish to further their personal and professional development through travel. Originally conceived as a fund to provide architects with the experience of a European Grand Tour, recipients now explore unique travel research topics around the world. Recent topics include the study of architecture in Siberia, post-revolutionary architecture in Cuba, and a survey of the art of topiary in Europe and the United States, among many others. The Stewardson Keefe LeBrun Travel Grant focuses on self-directed education through travel. Itineraries should be focused on a selected topic of interest to the individual, rather than a part of a larger humanitarian or institutional endeavor.

Although the field of architecture likes to think it is cutting-edge, adamantly liberal, and on the forefront of history, we still look towards the compulsive tendencies of the glorified visionary, their revolutionary thoughts, illuminating process, and iconic vision. This historiography is, in and of itself, an obsession - fetishizing personas, establishing camps, crafting a storyline that awards persuasion and trend over quality and sincerity. In the longstanding tradition of self-made, winner-take-all fanaticism, now more than ever do we see a craving for attention that is pulling (or rather dragging) the field even further from its core values and closer to soulless squander.

The BLL Awards for Architecture & Design comes from “Bringing light to life” which is the slogan of VELUX world brand for roof windows, which distribute daylight and fresh air into buildings through the roof. Starting with the landmark exhibition in 2014, Built by Women has offered the opportunity to demonstrate the breadth of achievement in the building industry by women at the highest levels.

Women are underrepresented in the building professions: architecture (15–18%), engineering (4.5–13.7%), and construction (2.6%). Built by Women’s goal is to change this. Increasing the number of women in science, technology, engineering, architecture and mathematics is critical to our country’s ability to compete globally. 

The purpose of this competition is to recognize the significant but often overlooked work of women architects, landscape architects, urban designers, engineers, contractors, and developers in the Los Angeles metropolitan area.

Be it to find solutions to particular design challenge, or simply to bring joy to a project, the intelligent integration of products into the design process – from the taps in a bathroom to the finishes on a façade – is an aspect of architecture that the AJ has long championed.

The International Consulting on the Urban Design of the Central Area of Guangming Science City(hereinafter referred to as “this consulting”) is to find the most practical space design plan, which can reflect the characteristics of Guangming Science City and make the Central Area of Science City a "Capital of Science, Core of the Bay Area, Green City", as well as a future-oriented, international leading player in high-quality development, a new engine of scientific and technological innovation, and a good example of sustainable development, so as to provide the target population with a green, ecological and intelligent urban area suitable for living and research, and set an example of development featuring international quality and local characteristics in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. On the occasion of the 100 Years of (Greater) Berlin anniversary, Berlin 2020 gGmbH, an organization of the Architekten- und Ingenieur-Verein zu Berlin e.V. (AIV), is launching an open-call initiative for an international urban design ideas competition. Berlin-Brandenburg 2070 aims to spur a broad social debate on the future of the Berlin-Brandenburg region. The competition asks architects, urban planners and landscape architects to respond to the interdisciplinary challenges facing the region in the future. The competition is focused on urban development issues common to both the city of Berlin and the state of Brandenburg. So that the design proposals fully take into account the challenges associated with sustainable metropolitan growth, the design ideas competition seeks to promote cooperation between the various experts and their fields. The international jury comprises the following members: Brigitte Bundesen Svarre, B.V. Prof. Ir. J.M.J. PREMISE

With the growing population, land is constantly seen as a depleting resource and thus has increased real estate prices. Today, the definition of a house has barely boiled down to it being a commodity that constitutes a kitchen, a living area, bedroom and bathroom. This commodity offered is sometimes so inhabitable that it even lacks the basic notion of light and ventilation. Eventually, all the other additional notions of what a house should offer then become secondary. How do we then redefine a modern living space for a space crunch situation that it is not just habitable, but also restores these essential notions that make it a house?
