The Community of Madrid and the Leganés City Council have launched an urban planning project competition to solicit the best planning proposals for the sustainable and innovative development of the new "Puerta de Madrid" neighborhood, which borders the established Leganés Norte neighborhood to the north and east. This urban development will be managed through a consortium involving both administrations.
The site features the Butarque Stream as its central axis and will connect to various natural spaces via the Arco Verde and Bosque Metropolitano environmental corridors. Its area will exceed one million square meters, with 40% dedicated to green areas and open spaces, and 60% reserved for public facilities, tertiary services, and housing solutions. Regarding housing, approximately 4,000 units are planned: 1,500 will be market-rate units in various typologies, and 2,500 will be designated for public protection or affordable rent.
