Today, the first selection of proposals advancing to the next phase of the competition was announced. Out of 650 total submissions, the regional architects' associations and Autonomous Councils selected 184 proposals to move forward with "Selected" status. This shortlist will be evaluated by three expert committees, which will study and analyze the projects within their respective professional fields. Following this review, the committees will draft a non-binding report for the Awards Jury, which holds the final responsibility of choosing the 18 finalists and winners.
In addition to presenting the prestigious Gold Medal for Architecture, six awards will be given based on values such as sustainability and health, the New European Bauhaus, social and ethical commitment, the profession, "RE" values (representing Rehabilitation, Renovation, and Regeneration), and habitat. Furthermore, three special distinctions will be awarded: the Spanish Architecture Prize, the Spanish Urbanism Prize, and the Permanence Prize.
