Mexico Design Fair announces its second edition from May 20 to 22, 2022, in Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca.

During the summer of 2021, the coast of Oaxaca, Mexico, hosted the first edition of a new platform created to discuss, exhibit, and celebrate the national design scene. Mexico Design Fair was established with the primary goal of promoting the acquisition of contemporary Mexican design to strengthen its positioning, while understanding and transcending the dynamics of the international market. This inaugural event featured key figures from today's design scene, such as Proyector and Pablo Kobayashi, who created temporary installations along the coast of Puerto Escondido. Other activities included the "Designer of the Year" award ceremony, presented to Mexican designer Liliana Ovalle.

Following the resounding success of this inaugural event, Mexico Design Fair MDF has announced details for its second edition. Taking place from May 20 to 22, the fair will be held across two main venues. The first is Casa Naila, designed by BAAQ', located on a point facing the Pacific coast in Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca. This venue will host the main exhibition, featuring a selection of pieces from 12 participating galleries and design brands. The second venue joining this edition is Casa Tiny, designed by Mexican architect Aranza de Ariño, which will host a satellite exhibition and the ceremony for this year's "Designer of the Year" award. Together, these two venues aim to build a narrative around the concepts of timelessness, craft, materiality, and contrast.

The fair also marks three significant milestones: first, the rug brand Odabashian celebrates its centenary with new pieces, collaborating for the first time with French designer Matali Crasset. Additionally, the iconic silverware brand TANE celebrates its 80th anniversary with pieces by Moisés Hernández, while CGN gallery celebrates 10 years of promoting contemporary design from Querétaro, featuring works by Edgar Orlaineta, Gabriel Rico, Marc Morro, Carlos Torre Hütt, and Todomuta.

The furniture featured throughout the fair will be curated by Shelf Gallery, featuring pieces by Ricardo Casas and Antonio O'Connell. Additionally, Canto joins MDF with chairs by Oscar Hagerman and La Invencible, whose woodwork "lies on the border between design and architecture." An interesting dialogue between national and international design will emerge through the participation of London-based Marion Friedmann Gallery, which has helped raise the profile of Mexican artists and designers, alongside Palestinian brand Local Industries, founded by brothers Elias and Yousef Anastas, who will present their latest collection to the American market during the fair.
