The impacts of human-induced climate change have already caused loss and damage to people and ecosystems. These impacts are most severe among marginalized urban populations, such as slum dwellers. In the most vulnerable regions, the number of deaths from droughts, floods, and storms was 15 times higher over the last decade than in the least vulnerable regions.
The second volume of the IPCC's Sixth Assessment Report (AR6), the United Nations climate panel, is filled with such statements in its executive summary, published this Monday (2/28). The summary was finalized during a virtual meeting amid the war in Ukraine, which also unfolded against a backdrop of internal conflict between governments and scientists of Working Group II, which addresses impacts and vulnerabilities.
