The 12th Ibero-American Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism (BIAU) announced today on its website the winners of its four categories: Works, Actions on the Margin, Publications, and Academic Programs.
A total of 9 works and 20 projects were named winners in this edition of the BIAU, an event organized by the Government of Spain through the Ministry of Transport, Mobility, and Urban Agenda (MITMA) via the General Directorate of Urban Agenda and Architecture. The biennial will take place within the framework of the MEXTRÓPOLI Architecture and City Festival in Mexico City from September 21 to 25.
Centered on the theme Living on the Margin, the BIAU recognizes the most outstanding Ibero-American architecture and urbanism of the last three years across its various award categories.
Selected from over 800 submissions—which were narrowed down to 84 finalists—the winning projects address issues ranging from the transformation of domestic spaces and the use of design as a tool for community cohesion, to the right to the city, quality public space, collaborative work, and the creation of new cartographies for emerging social realities and challenges.
