14 emerging practices selected for the Latin American Architecture Biennale (BAL 2023)

The Latin American Architecture Biennale (BAL) provides a perspective on the architectural scene—a bridge between Latin America and Spain. Currently organized by the AREA association in collaboration with the Pamplona City Council, the Basque-Navarre Association of Architects, the Government of Navarra, and the Ministry of Development, the event takes place primarily in Pamplona, with extensions in Madrid and Barcelona, alongside a traveling exhibition across the country.

Since its inaugural edition in 2009, the BAL has highlighted emerging practices and professionals who have since achieved global recognition, such as Adamo Faiden, Carla Juaçaba, Pezo von Ellrichshausen, Daniel Moreno, and Ambrosi Etchegaray. For this upcoming edition, taking place from September 26 to 29, 2023, young architecture firms from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Mexico, Paraguay, and Uruguay join this roster.

On November 10, 2022, at the School of Architecture of the University of Navarra, the jury—composed of president Juan Miguel Otxotorena Elizegi, members José Manuel Pozo Municio, Iñaqui Carnicero Alonso-Colmenares, Francisco Mangado Beloqui, Efrén Munárriz Clemos, Rafael Araujo Guardamino, and Óscar Pérez Silanes, alongside secretary Rubén Labiano Novoa—selected the following group of practices invited to participate in the next BAL 2023, with official confirmations from the participants expected soon.
