From April 21 to June 19, the PUCP Architecture Archive presents “José García Bryce: Recollections for a History of Peruvian Architecture” at the PUCP Cultural Center. This exhibition approaches the work of Peruvian architect José García Bryce through seven of his creations, arranged in a chronological narrative that offers insight into the evolution of his thought.

The selection features the graphic essay Exploraciones para el Centro Histórico de Lima; the architectural survey of the camarín of the Virgen de La Merced; three solo works—the Álvarez Calderón building, the San José chapel, and the Chabuca Granda housing complex—a co-authored project, the Lima Civic Center; and a series of slides used for teaching.

Original documents for each project were selected from the archival collection donated by the architect to the PUCP Architecture Archive. The displayed documents show the intellectual activity behind each project as tangible and conceptual evidence of this history. Reviewing the plans, perspectives, photographs, articles, and essays allows us to draw parallels between the ideas, the creative process, and the built work of García Bryce.

About the Archive
The PUCP Architecture Archive focuses on the acquisition, conservation, and dissemination of the archival collections of architects who worked in Peru. The collections we safeguard consist of original documents related to the intellectual and creative production of the architect: plans, photographs, writings, letters, travel journals, and more. This archive serves as an unprecedented resource for historical research, theory development, and the promotion of Peruvian architecture—a project made possible by the commitment of faculty, students, and administrative staff from the PUCP Architecture community.
