From September 21 to 25, the Mextrópoli Festival + the XII Ibero-American Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism took place in Mexico City. As part of the event, ArchDaily sat down with 2014 Pritzker Prize laureate Shigeru Ban to discuss the theme "Inhabiting at the Margins." This topic seeks to explore solutions addressing the growing social, environmental, and economic demands at the fringes of the architectural system.
Drawing from his extensive humanitarian work, Shigeru Ban spoke about his and his firm's contributions to regions affected by natural disasters. He shared his perspective on material availability and the role of technology in an architect's work, while also recounting his experience with the city during the September 2017 earthquake in Puebla, Mexico, reflecting on the vital importance of building a talented, collaborative team to bring projects to life.
