It is still possible to control global warming, says IPCC

Subscriber Access

We are still far from the goal of limiting global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels and avoiding the worst risks of climate change. However, this target remains within reach, according to the latest report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)—and this hope must guide the political and economic decisions of this decade, according to WWF-Brazil.

As recent IPCC reports have shown, this decade is decisive for the climate. In 2018, the Panel warned that to stand a reasonable chance of limiting warming to 1.5°C, governments and companies needed to cut CO2 emissions by 45% by 2030. In other words, we have just eight years. The new IPCC report outlines how the world can act to achieve the Paris Agreement goals, evaluating methods to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and remove carbon from the atmosphere.
