Urban Art Circuit in Vitacura: The Paste Up Outdoor Art Festival

Paste Up, a festival that brings the selected works of six local visual artists to the streets of Santiago, Chile, launched an outdoor route in early December hosted on a series of iconic buildings in the municipality of Vitacura. Renowned urban artist and photographer Caiozzama, whose artistic interventions became icons of the 2019 social uprisings, curated and edited the pieces. The process of translating various sizes and techniques into large-format works also includes the subsequent recycling of the large-scale prints, which will be on display until the end of February. The artists who participated in this edition of the festival are Fab Ciraolo, Bruna Truffa, Juana Gómez, Cecilia Avendaño Bobilier, and Santiago Ascui. Learn more about the works and the urban art route below.

The route is centered along Bicentenario, Nueva Costanera, Santa María, and Américo Vespucio avenues, and features interventions on six iconic buildings in the municipality of Vitacura. The Paste-Up festival is sponsored by the participating buildings and the Vitacura Cultural Corporation, including the Tánica building. Featuring a 76-square-meter large-scale print, the building's facade showcases the work "Reunión" by Chilean artist Juana Gómez. According to the artist, the textile composition depicts "two hands moving toward each other to join, veins and artery, red and blue, cold and heat—two opposing manifestations that constitute only one."

At the Vitacura Civic Center, the work "Home Sweet Home" by visual artist Bruna Truffa stands out for bringing themes and motifs primarily associated with domesticity into the public space. In the artist's words, "the work addresses the clash of two spaces, an encounter between the intimacy of the home, loaded with history, and the long-standing controversy of COPEVA public housing and the effects that poor state planning had on its residents. At the same time, Home Sweet Home creates an Americanist crossover embodied by a baroque style that imbues the work with other messages, which filter through the Sacred Heart, roses, and the interpretations that the viewer themselves may bring." While the collection of works is diverse, they share a common thread sustained by the vividness of their colors and subject matter, offering the city new, albeit ephemeral, perceptions of public space.
