Launched as part of the 1st International Architecture Biennial of Lima – BIALIMA 2021, the call for entries aimed to design public infrastructure that harmoniously integrates with its natural and built surroundings to rehabilitate the stairways connecting different areas within the settlement. The international jury, composed of Michael Smith (Costa Rica), Luis Rodríguez (Peru), and Marta Morelli (Peru), selected 4 winning proposals that stood out for addressing community needs through interventions on the stairways of the San Juan de Lurigancho locality.

Category A: Young Architects Under 35

Verdict: For its understanding of the environment as an ecosystem sensitive to diverse biotic and abiotic relationships. Guided by territorial dynamics, the project prioritizes natural regeneration alongside anthropogenic spatial interventions that integrate sensitively, creating spaces that invite visitors to rediscover the lomas (coastal hills) and their relationship with the immediate surroundings, serving as catalysts for community development. The proposal is also recognized for its relevant approach to resolving mobility through the huaro (cable car), its systemic design, and its replicability.

Verdict: For its sensitivity to the environment and geomorphological conditions, consistently proposing viable and replicable strategies for natural regeneration through spaces designed with potential users in mind. It stands out for its effort to find nature-based solutions to various challenges in the area.
