Using sections, perspectives, and axonometric drawings, architect Carlos Valarezo has represented key works of contemporary Ecuadorian architecture from recent years, communicating and highlighting the main characteristics of each project and its relationship with the viewer.

Why do you use a non-digital technique for architectural representation? What are its advantages?
CV: I believe that when drawing by hand, ideas flow faster, directly from the brain to the hand. In the process of figuring out how to use a tool, much is lost, which is why I sketch everything by hand first and only use Photoshop and Illustrator for final touch-ups. This technique allows me to have an original work that I can keep (many of which are now owned by the architects of the featured projects) as well as a digital version to share across various platforms. I believe this method allows us to explore paths that are overlooked digitally—at least in the early stages of the design process. Therefore, this practice, which is currently being lost, is not only important but essential.
