Walls of Air is the theme guiding Brazil's participation at the 16th International Architecture Exhibition in Venice. Jointly curated by Laura González Fierro, Sol Camacho, Gabriel Kozlowski, and Marcelo Maia Rosa, the Brazilian Pavilion features 17 projects from different regions of the country, selected through an open call, as well as a series of large-scale cartographic drawings addressing various aspects of the country's urbanization through the lens of architecture.
With two exhibition fronts in the Brazilian Pavilion, the exhibition Walls of Air aims to investigate the wall as an element of Brazilian architecture, culture, and identity, viewing the act of its transposition as an invitation to coexistence and multiplicity. Through graphic analysis, the exhibition explores Brazil's territorial transformations at different scales—from the globe to the architectural object, and ultimately to the scale of the wall.
As part of our coverage of the 2018 Venice Biennale, we asked the curators to explain the Brazilian participation in more detail. Watch the video above.
