According to announcements on the UNESCO website, the World Heritage List represents an invaluable legacy of monuments, natural beauty, and cultural treasures belonging to all humanity. The sites inscribed on this list serve as milestones on our planet, symbolizing regional and national awareness of the significance of place and shared wealth, while preserving this collective heritage for future generations.

At the time of publication, the World Heritage List includes 1,073 inscribed sites, comprising 832 cultural, 206 natural, and 35 mixed properties across 167 State Parties. Since November 2016, 192 countries have ratified the World Heritage Convention. Currently, 139 sites are located in Latin America and the Caribbean; of these, 34 are in Mexico (6 natural, 27 cultural, and 1 mixed site), placing the country first in the Americas and seventh in the world.
