The architecture of Navarre is a faithful reflection of the cultural diversity of northern Spain. This is due not only to centuries of Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque architectural influences but also to their combination with more recent modern works, which serve as the starting point for the "20th Century Architecture Guide of Navarre." This 250-page book is published by T6, featuring the collaborative work of José Manuel Pozo and an extensive documentation, editorial, and design team.
The book is a catalog of nearly 170 modern and contemporary architectural works, spanning from the mountainous and riverside regions to the historic center and the expansions of Pamplona, before opening the doors to the latest buildings constructed between 2000 and 2012.
"The interest of this guide lies more in compiling a list of recent works rather than the most remote ones, which becomes obvious when observing the overwhelming majority of works built after the 1970s included in it. Indeed, the guide contains 52 works from between 1900 and 1970, and 115 from 1970 to the present day. Anyone using this guide will also observe that these post-1970s works share many stylistic features, which would lead one to state—and I do not think it will surprise anyone—that a school has consolidated in Navarre in recent years," writes architect Rafael Moneo, winner of the 1996 Pritzker Prize, in the prologue.
