Text description provided by the architects. The building, with its main façade facing Campo dos Mártires da Pátria, and the sides facing Travessa José Vaz de Carvalho and Travessa das Recolhidas, was originally a noble house predating the 1755 earthquake, with a U-shaped layout creating an inner garden. Over time, it underwent several modifications and expansions to adapt to different uses. Its notoriously poor state of conservation at the time of acquisition demanded urgent rehabilitation and requalification.
