Sir Christopher Wren (20 October 1632 – 25 February 1723) is one the most significant architects in British history, and was a recognized astronomer, scholar, and physicist-mathematician. Wren was classically trained at the University of Oxford in physics and engineering where he developed his interest in architecture. He is perhaps most famous for designing London's iconic St Paul's Cathedral, however he is credited with the design of dozens of other churches, government buildings, and hospitals in England. Wren was knighted in 1673.
Architecture firm Ayre Chamberlain Gaunt have won approval to design a new sports pavilion and social club at May’s Bounty Cricket Ground in Basingstoke, Hampshire. Providing a new home for the area’s cricket, rugby, football and squash clubs, the project consists of two carved brick blocks that come together to form a plinth. The aspiration is for the town to host Hampshire County cricket matches once again, with the facility becoming a new home for a local rugby, football and squash club.
Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios has received unanimous planning approval for the third phase of work in Cornwall. Called Hayle North Quay, the 20 acre mixed use regeneration project was made to create a contemporary harbourside as part of the region's UNESCO World Heritage Site. The scheme draws inspiration from Cornish coal wharf heritage and the natural landscape to creating a vibrant vision for Cornwall's coast.
