Impact Acoustic is a Swiss manufacturer of acoustic solutions and materials engineered for performance and circular design. They present Balken and Balken Light, a volumetric ceiling baffle and its integrated lighting variant, both produced using Swiss 3D printing technology from ARCHISONIC® Felt. The hollow beam construction of both products delivers high sound absorption while maintaining a clean, architectural profile inspired by the appearance of a wooden beam.
Balken — Volumetric Ceiling Baffle
Balken is a hollow ceiling baffle available in three heights—77 mm, 127 mm, and 227 mm—and two standard lengths—1400 mm and 2800 mm—all at a consistent width of 80 mm. The hollow construction enables sound absorption performance that scales with air gap: from αw = 0.55 with no air gap up to αw = 0.95 with a 200 mm or greater air gap for the 24 mm material thickness, per DIN ISO 11654. Four mounting options are available, and baffles can be connected end-to-end for seamless runs. The product ships flat-packed and is straightforward to assemble on site.
Balken is available in 45 ARCHISONIC® Felt colors and the full 33-color ARCHISONIC® Riftcut range, which offers printed wood-veneer finishes developed in collaboration with Schotten & Hansen and designer Ina Rinderknecht.
Balken Light — Acoustic Lighting
Balken Light is the lighting extension of Balken, available in the 227 mm height and both standard lengths (1400 mm and 2800 mm). The integrated track lighting system—1200 mm for the 1400 mm baffle, 2400 mm for the 2800 mm baffle—supports three click-in light source options: spotlight, opal linear diffuser, and darklight. This allows the lighting character to be adapted to the space and use case. Balken Light shares the same material, fire rating, acoustic performance, and color range as the standard Balken, with the addition of UL certification for US and Canadian markets.
