Lunawood is a pioneer in decorative wood solutions, with 25 years of expertise in the thermal modification of wood. Their mission is to reconnect people with nature by bringing the calming essence of the forest into urban environments.
Lunawood ThermoWood® products provide a reliable material solution for floating architecture and waterfront structures, where durability, dimensional stability, and resistance to moisture are critical performance requirements.
Through a controlled thermal modification process using heat and steam, Nordic timber is transformed into a material suitable for continuous exposure to demanding marine and humid environments. These properties allow Lunawood systems to be used in floating residential, recreational, and hospitality projects, supporting lightweight construction, consistent appearance over time, and long-term performance in conditions where conventional wood materials may face limitations.
Marasi Floating Homes by Admares
Lunawood ThermoWood® battens were applied in a series of floating luxury villas designed by U+A and Sigge Architects, located along a coastal development in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Completed in 2017, the project forms part of a modular waterfront housing concept in which the villas were prefabricated and installed as floating residential units along a 12-kilometre beach boulevard.
Within this floating construction system, Luna SHP 42 × 68 profiles were specified as façade cladding and solar shading elements, supporting lightweight assembly and reliable performance in a marine environment exposed to humidity, salt, and high temperatures.
Floating Sauna in Oslo
Lunawood ThermoWood® cladding was applied in a floating sauna developed by Sørenga Badstuflåte, located in Oslo Harbour between the Oslo Opera House and the installation Das Eismeer. The project introduces a contemporary sauna facility within a historic waterfront setting, creating a contrast between new recreational structures and the surrounding urban context.
In this application, Lunawood ThermoWood® was installed as horizontal exterior cladding, supporting reliable performance in an environment characterized by humidity, temperature variation, and direct exposure to water. The floating structure demonstrates how wood cladding systems can be integrated into compact recreational buildings designed for use in both hot and cold climatic conditions.
