Lunawood ThermoWood® battens were applied in a series of floating luxury villas designed by U+A and Sigge Architects, located along a 12-kilometre beachfront development in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Completed in 2017, the project forms part of a large-scale coastal residential concept featuring modular, prefabricated villas manufactured by Admares. The development introduces contemporary waterfront housing designed to respond to the region’s climatic conditions while offering direct access to outdoor living spaces.

For the building envelope and shading systems, the architects specified Luna SHP 42 × 68 profiles installed as façade cladding and solar shading elements. The vertical battens contribute to solar control by reducing direct heat gain while maintaining visual openness toward the surrounding seascape. This façade strategy supports thermal comfort in a hot coastal environment while reinforcing the architectural identity of the villas through a consistent exterior material expression.

Each floating villa includes two to four bedrooms, private outdoor terraces, and swimming pools, with layouts designed to maximize views and natural ventilation along the waterfront. The modular construction approach enabled the villas to be manufactured off-site and transported to their final location, supporting efficient installation within a complex marine setting. Within this context, the use of Lunawood ThermoWood® provides dimensional stability and durability under conditions of high temperature, humidity, and salt exposure.

Through the integration of prefabricated construction methods and climate-responsive façade systems, the project demonstrates how exterior wood elements can be used to support shading performance and material consistency in coastal residential developments.
