POST2000TALKS is cycle of conferences architecture related in Lisbon. Its purpose is the display and exchange of different architecture experiences worldwide. The guests represent a generation of young professionals whom started their own office/research practices after the year 2000. The program is defined by a continuous line-up of lectures, presentations and debates. POST2000TALKS is a collaboration between JA-Project and the think-tank NOGO, and hosted by Galeria Luis Serpa Projectos, all based in Lisbon.
KSP Jürgen Engel Architekten International received first prize in the international competition for the new Beijing Science Center. The original building housing the Museum was opened in the same place in Beijing in 1988 and at the time was the first national science and technology museum in China.
The museum building will be constructed on behalf of the Beijing Association for Science and Technology, China. You can see more images and complete architect’s description after the break.

Morerava Cabins / AATA Associate Architects We originally started with the idea of the Morerava Cabins when we saw an opportunity to create a tourist complex on Easter Island in 2009. Analysing the tourist market on the Island we quickly realized most sectors were well developed, spanning from luxury Hotels to private homes and camping, however one niche sector was not covered: family friendly cabins which meet certain quality standards (read more…)
International architecture practice HKS shared with us their proposal for the Suzhou Children’s Hospital Competition in China. The program includes a 94,800 sqm children’s hospital with 600 beds in the initial phase including over 7,000 sqm for outpatient clinics, 14 OR’s, a full service emergency department, imaging, and required support.
Other major program elements include a teaching/research and administration facility, staff housing, a separate infectious disease facility, and initial parking for 800 cars. You can see more images and architect’s description after the break.
The Re-Skinning Awards invites the best minds in architecture, design, building, and engineering from around the world to submit building projects that demonstrate the innovative use of energy retrofitting technologies. Retrofitting and re-skinning involve the implementation of design solutions to dramatically reduce the environmental footprint of older, energy-inefficient buildings. This competition recognizes the year’s most progressive retrofitting projects that are make our cities more sustainable.
French architects Atelier Zündel & Cristea shared with us their project Orthodox Center, which includes an orthodox church, cultural center and offices. More images and architect’s description after the break.

The Spanish architecture firm MADE IN have won the Maritime Cultural & Pop Music Center International Competition in the city of Kaohsiung, Taiwan. You can see more images and architect’s description after the break.
Developer X is an installation piece by Reigo & Bauer that chronicles a fictional, philanthropic, vigilante developer, who during the night anonymously drops Pre-Fab modern houses on empty lots throughout the city.

The grand prize in the international architectural competition to design the United Arab Emirates (U.A.E.) Federal National Council’s (FNC) New Parliament Building Complex has been awarded to Ehrlich Architects, the Los Angeles, California, design firm. BIG + realities:united + AKT + Topotek 1 & Man Made Land is selected to design the new Waste-to-Energy Plant that doubles as a ski slope for Copenhagen’s citizens and its many visitors by 2016.
Located in an industrial area near the city center the new Waste-to-Energy plant will be an exemplary model in the field of waste management and energy production, as well as an architectural landmark in the cityscape of Copenhagen. The project is the single largest environmental initiative in Denmark with a budget of 3,5 Billion DKK, and replaces the adjacent 40 year old Amagerfor- braending plant, integrating the latest technologies in waste treatment and environmental performance.
The shortlisted offices included Wilkinson Eyre Architects, Dominique Perrault Architecture, 3xN, Lundgaard & Tranberg Architects & Gottlieb Paludan Architects who were selected to compete out of 36 international proposals in Fall 2010. The winning team is announced by an unanimous judge panel.

In the wake of Rudy Ricciotti, Patrick Bouchain, Lacaton & Vassal, Luca Merlini, Lefèvre & Aubert, TYIN and Anna Heringer, the villa Noailles wishes to briefly halt an astonishing explorer who endlessly travels the planet in order to observe and capture the architecture of this period, along with the life which evolves within it.
Christopher Parsons will lead a series of short, focused discussions on best practices for transforming your firm’s thought leadership and organizational learning efforts using technology and social media tools. Discussion topics include best practices for marketing technical knowledge, industry case studies, and proven strategies for improving knowledge sharing in your organization. He will also tell the story of how he leveraged social media tools to build his tribe, KA Connect, which enables AEC professionals to share best practices for knowledge management and organizational learning.

Today the Istituto Italiano di Cultura of Los Angeles (IIC) will celebrate the opening of the first comprehensive exhibition on the cultural connection of the iconic American architect Louis I. Kahn and Italy. Entitled Kahn in Venice, the show was co‐organized by the ICC and the Louis I. Kahn collection of the University of Pennsylvania Archives.
