In/Visible Borders

The AIA|DC Urban Design Committee announces the launch of our design competition In/Visible Borders.

This year we have hosted panel discussions, a film showing and gatherings centered on the theme of spatial equity, or the just distribution of resources and the rewards of public life.

The competition invites you to reflect on the nature of thresholds, boundaries and borders at every scale, from the street edge to the geopolitical, from the manifest to the unstated. Consider how they are alternately devices for identity and belonging or exclusion and inequity. You will propose a design solution that enhances spatial equity along the border of your choosing.
