A Leading Light for Sustainable Construction: LafargeHolcim Awards

We all know that architecture, urban planning, and materials technology should aspire to greater levels of sustainability to deliver a built environment with better economic, ecological, and social performance. Innovation plays an important role since the challenges of the building and construction industry grow daily – especially in terms of sustainability. But how can the best concepts and projects find the spotlight to speed up the pace of transformation?

Through the LafargeHolcim Awards competition, the LafargeHolcim Foundation is helping the world to build better – by creating an international platform for exchanging inspiring ideas and rewarding the best submissions from professionals and students from around the globe. The competition features a category for established professionals with projects at an advanced stage of design and also a category for emerging concepts of the next generation.

“Students and young professionals around the world now have an unlimited opportunity to share their ideas and win international recognition through the LafargeHolcim Awards,” says PhD candidate and LafargeHolcim Forum 2016 student poster winner, Eduardo Pizarro. The enthusiastic Brazilian architecture student is conducting research on “Turning Voids into Infrastructure” to find ways to leverage spaces between the buildings in Paraisópolis, the second largest favela in the city where he studies at the Faculty of Architecture & Urbanism at the University of São Paulo (USP).
