The Floresta apartment complex, designed by Somatic Collaborative, is a 16 unit residential complex that occupies a residual site on the northeastern edge of the city of Quito, Ecuador, overlooking the Guapulo valley. More images and project description after the break.

Conceived as an “L” shape in plan, the building is sighted on the two edges adjacent to the streets capitalizing on the stronger soil within the site and defining a clear urban edge. The ground level is defined by a courtyard containing a swimming pool that cantilevers towards the abyss, and encloses a sunken garden that brings light to the underground parking.
