Text description provided by the architects. The Tiger Track Ecolodge is a model for wildlife tourism and a demonstration of contemporary earth construction in Bardiya, Nepal. Located in the Khata Corridor between Bardiya National Park and India's Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary, the project responds to two interrelated pressures: increasing human-wildlife conflict and the erosion of local building traditions. Tourism revenue supports a Single Women's Wildlife Victim Fund and the Community-Based Anti-Poaching Unit (CBAPU), whose Rapid Response Team is based at the lodge. Architecturally, the project reinterprets the low, mud-plastered walls and simple gable roofs of the indigenous Tharu settlements while challenging the assumption that earth is temporary, weak, or incompatible with modern development.
