Text description provided by the architects. This is the winning project of the Memorial for Former Women Political Prisoners competition, promoted by the Intendencia de Montevideo and CRYSOL, the association of former political prisoners of Uruguay. The memorial centers affective bonds as the “most powerful tool” for facing adversity—the bonds formed among the former political prisoners, their sisterhood, and the connections they forged on the outside, which allowed them to rebuild their lives and pass on the memory of what happened.
