Text description provided by the architects. The client, a group of four young entrepreneurs including the renowned hairstylist Felipe Freitas, wanted to completely renovate an abandoned three-story building in the heart of Ipanema, Rio de Janeiro, transforming it into a New York loft-style space. During the initial assessment with our engineering team and structural consultant Hegberto Nassar from Hesser Consultoria, we realized that all the walls were load-bearing. This made it impossible to remove them or, worse, to widen openings, passages, and doors. The solution was to work from the inside out, creating a new steel structure—like a skeleton—so we could remove all the walls and design a completely new layout.
