Text description provided by the architects. 1 - Summary
The Bairro do Cerco do Porto was built in 1963, within the context of the Estado Novo's social housing policies, and expanded in 1991, with the goal of rehousing underprivileged populations living in ilhas (tenement housing) and precarious dwellings in downtown Porto. It consists of 34 social housing blocks, with 4 to 5 floors, totaling 892 apartments.
