Text description provided by the architects. Designed by gmp Architects (von Gerkan, Marg and Partners), the newly completed Xinzhou Building is located in the Caohejing Hi-Tech Park. Previously an industrial site, the plot sits between a major elevated expressway in western Shanghai and a park. Facing complex constraints from heavy traffic, intersecting roads, and visual connections with the urban landscape, the Xinzhou Building responds to these unique environmental conditions with an unconventional, sculptural form. The building features a horizontal, prismatic glass volume poised atop a monumental fair-faced concrete plinth, creating a striking presence that redefines the character of this former industrial area.
