The 38th Colombian Congress of Architecture and Urbanism opened virtually on Monday, October 16, and will host its in-person sessions starting October 19 in the city of Pereira, Risaralda, Colombia. The event will run until October 21 at the Expofuturo Convention Center.
The congress centers on the overarching theme of "social architecture," a highly relevant topic both for Latin American architecture and on a global scale. The general framework of the presentations aims to reclaim the contribution of architecture to social well-being and quality of life. This will translate into a detailed analysis of issues such as accessibility, environmental sustainability, territorial integration, the inclusion of marginalized groups, resource efficiency, revitalization, and reintegration.
More than 100 speakers, experts, and special guests will gather to showcase best practices, highlighting the effort to understand the needs and desires of local communities by designing spaces that promote inclusion, equality, and social justice. Key international and national speakers include Ignacio Alcalde, Marta Cos, Jose Cardona Martínez, Mauricio Cárdenas Laverde, Antonio Espinoza, Martín Andrade Ruiz, Diana Wiesner, Alejandro Saldarriaga, and Michael Smith Masis, among others.
