The international architecture and city festival Open House will take place in Madrid from September 21 to 24, 2023, inviting residents to visit and explore some of the capital's most iconic buildings. Extending beyond Madrid to open several spaces in San Lorenzo de El Escorial, this ninth edition will open the doors of over 120 buildings and studios, while also offering 13 outdoor routes and itineraries to discover Madrid's architecture.
Year after year, Open House Madrid raises awareness about the value of good design and architectural space, fostering understanding and learning through tours, routes, and itineraries of iconic buildings that are typically closed to the public or have recently opened. Although not all buildings require pre-registration, the registration period for those that do begins on September 13.
Expanding beyond the city limits, this year's festival is also celebrated in the Royal Site of San Lorenzo de El Escorial. Located in the heart of the Sierra de Guadarrama, the municipality boasts an architectural heritage of great value and exceptional natural surroundings. Visitors will be able to tour the Escorial Theater Auditorium, the Cocheras del Rey, the Casa de la Cultura, and the Royal Monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial—declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984—among others.
Among the buildings open to visitors is the recently opened U Music Hotel, which offers great views of the city and houses the Albéniz Theater, declared an Asset of Heritage Interest by the Community of Madrid in 2018. Another highlight is the Casa de las Alhajas, the new headquarters of TeamLabs, located in Plaza de San Martín and built in 1870 to replace the former headquarters of the Monte de Piedad.
Additionally, Open House Madrid 2023 will host the 5th edition of the City Awards, bringing together architecture firms, participating venues, and sponsors to showcase the proposals that will shape the future of cities. The award categories are Best Innovative Solution, Best Mobility Proposal, and Best Urban Design.

This ninth edition of the festival is supported by institutions, sponsors, and collaborators, with notable institutional backing from the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda; the Community of Madrid through the Department of Culture, Tourism and Sports; and the Madrid City Council through the Department of Tourism, alongside the collaboration of the San Lorenzo de El Escorial Town Hall. Companies such as Bulthaup Claudio Coello, Gilmar, Iryo, Minim, Simon, Voltio, Exteriorplus, and Guía del Ocio, among others, join the effort to promote the culture and knowledge of Madrid through this event, which would not be possible without the collaboration of the Association of Young Guides of Madrid (Asociación de Jóvenes Guías de Madrid).
