Within the framework of the 36th edition of the CAP Competition—held annually since 1986—Chilean schools of architecture were invited to propose and explore steel-based designs responding to the theme "Industry, Innovation, and Cultural Infrastructure." This theme aligns with the United Nations (UN) 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The organizers challenged participants to study steel deeply, seeking a higher level of knowledge and understanding of the material as both an architectural and structural element.
The winning proposal, "Valdivia Bridge"—designed by Universidad Finis Terrae students Benjamin Palavecino, Daniel Paillalef, Fernanda Diáz, and Nicolas Delpino, under the guidance of advising professors Andrés Echeverría and Claudio Araya—will represent Chile in the international stage of the competition organized by the Latin American Steel Association (ALACERO). The 15th edition of the #desafioAlacero Competition will be held virtually from October 24 to November 4 of this year, featuring entries from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic.
