Peru is a country with an extensive, rich, and deeply significant archaeological heritage. Unfortunately, the passage of time has brought severe deterioration. In their article, "Captura de datos 3D para virtualizar el patrimonio cultural" (3D Data Capture to Virtualize Cultural Heritage), authors Norma León Lescano, Yann Barnet, and Alvaro Racchumi outline the method they used to capture a three-dimensional replica of the Palace of Puruchuco. By doing so, they aim to provide the necessary information to guide and promote the virtualization of this remarkable cultural heritage, expanding its reach, appreciation, and preservation.
The Palace of Puruchuco is located within the archaeological area of the Ate district in Lima, Peru. Built at the foot of a hillside, the structure once served as the residence of the Curaca (the highest Inca authority). It is constructed entirely of adobe, resulting in a highly complex architectural layout of narrow passages and various covered spaces. The authors selected this restored heritage building as a case study due to the challenges it presents for capturing 3D graphic data using photogrammetry technologies.
