Open House Málaga 2022: Discover the architectural works you can visit

From November 18 to 20, 2022, Open House Málaga, one of the world's most important architecture and city festivals, will take place. Now in its second year in the city, the festival features over 40 free activities, including building visits, urban tours, and experiences. The event aims to connect the city with its residents and visitors, offering a unique architectural perspective alongside architects and industry professionals.

Open House Málaga kicks off on November 17 at 10:30 AM with a special route titled “Entering the courtyard, showing the heart of the home” (“Entrando al patio, enseñando el corazón de la casa”). Led by Paco González, the festival's architectural director, this tour of Málaga's courtyards includes three buildings in the historic city center where the courtyard serves as the central element, or heart, of the home.

Over time, the courtyard in Málaga homes has served various functions as daily habits and lifestyles have evolved. The stops along this urban tour include the home and workshop of Pedro de Mena, the Gómez Madrona family residence on Beatas Street, and the tourist apartments on San Juan Street. No registration is required for this route, which is open to the general public and will also run on Saturday, November 19, at 4:30 PM and 5:00 PM.

This coming weekend, Open House Málaga will open the doors to both its most iconic landmarks and contemporary buildings that reflect the ongoing urban transformation of this Mediterranean city. By focusing on culture, public space revitalization, education, innovation, and business development, Málaga has positioned itself as a city oriented toward contemplation, integration with nature, and outdoor living. The event serves as a showcase for everything from cultural and tourist spaces to residential and corporate architecture.

In addition to tours of public spaces and iconic Málaga courtyards, the festival will host a series of experiences, including talks, roundtables, conferences, and concerts, all designed to highlight the role of architecture in daily life. The festival is supported by the Regional Government of Andalusia (through the Department of Tourism, Culture, and Sport), the Málaga City Council (through its Department of Culture), and various other public and private institutions.
