Who has won the National Architecture Award in Chile?

The National Architecture Award of Chile is presented by the Colegio de Arquitectos (Architects Association) to recognize "a lifetime dedicated to the service of architecture," according to the organization. First awarded in 1969, the inaugural recipient was Juan Martínez, architect of landmark projects such as the Law School at the University of Chile and the Votive Temple of Maipú.

As explained by the Colegio de Arquitectos de Chile itself, the National Architecture Award is presented to an architect or team "whose career and ethical and professional performance has set an example for all architects, in any form of professional practice, whether in the execution of architectural works, academic endeavors, professional association work, public service, or administration."

The National Architecture Award of Chile was presented annually between 1969 and 1977. Starting in 1979, it became a biennial honor to coincide with the Chilean Architecture Biennial. Since 2016, however, the award has been presented every three years. To this day, only registered architects can nominate a peer for the award, after which a Search Committee is tasked with creating a three-person shortlist for the National Board, which ultimately selects the winner.
