On Friday, October 14, the jury announced its decision for the Long Stage of the 38th Alberto J. Pani Architectural Composition Award, organized by the Faculty of Architecture of the National Autonomous University of Mexico, in collaboration with an institution of the Association of Architecture Teaching Institutions of the Mexican Republic (ASINEA)—which this year was the Faculty of Architecture of the Universidad De La Salle Bajío in León, Guanajuato.
The brief for the five finalists in the Long Stage was: Pilgrim Center and Community Plaza “Camino a San Juan” in León, Guanajuato. Universidad De La Salle Bajío provided the five finalists with the relevant information to define and understand the project's scope, which involved designing a service facility for pilgrims traveling to San Juan de los Lagos in the Los Altos region of Jalisco; the space also had to function as a community center for extracurricular education, conferences, presentations, training courses, and various social events.
The jury for this edition was composed of: Dr. Juan Ignacio del Cueto Ruiz-Funes, Dean of the UNAM Faculty of Architecture; José Francisco Reygadas Valdéz, President of the National Academy of Architecture; Juan Homero Hernández Tena, President of ASINEA; Francisco Treviño Laustenau, Emeritus Member of the National Academy of Architecture; Manuel Fermín Villar Rubio, President of the San Luis Potosí Chapter of the National Academy of Architecture; Héctor Enrique Pérez Aguilar, Director of the Faculty of Architecture at Universidad De La Salle Bajío; María de la Paz Díaz Infante Aguirre, Professor at the Faculty of Architecture at Universidad De La Salle Bajío; Eduardo Muñoz de la Torre, winner of the 25th edition of the Alberto J. Pani Award (2009); and Isaura González Gottdiener, Academic Secretary of the UNAM Faculty of Architecture and Secretary of the Jury.
