Over the years, driven by research that has brought once-neglected and marginalized issues to the fore, the debate surrounding self-construction and migratory processes has become increasingly vital for exploring the social phenomena reflected in the architecture of underserved, commonly termed "irregular" areas. While a clear polarization remains regarding what a living space should or should not be, we must observe what already exists—not only to contribute to the discussion but, above all, to listen and learn.

Within this framework, Mexican artist Sandra Calvo has dedicated her practice to exploring and bringing visibility to these issues, presenting a record defined by a sharp, critical presence rooted in a discipline that demonstrates a deep awareness of the context under study. Here, political, economic, and social factors are interwoven, addressing not just a single nation but a continuous migratory movement within our globalized world. Below, we present an interview conducted by ArchDaily Mexico's Editor, Mónica Arellano, which offers a deep dive into the extensive work Sandra Calvo has developed over recent years.
