The city of Bucaramanga is set to undergo an urban renewal project that prioritizes pedestrians in streetscapes, led by the Taller Profesional de Arquitectura Pública de Bucaramanga.

The initiative aims to improve efficient urban solutions at a neighborhood scale, working to counteract the effects of climate heating through urban acupuncture and tactical urbanism as strategies for evaluating urban planning and economic proposals. Additionally, it aims to strengthen direct interactions between the project team and the beneficiary community.

As a first step, the team will manage the bidding process through the Infrastructure Secretariat for the Solón Wilches, La Concordia, Monterredondo, de Los Héroes, de Los Periodistas, and Bruno Botello parks, as well as the Las Américas public space, the Cordoncillos, Buenavista, and Casa Búho community centers, and the Las Américas Ludoteca.

This co-creative territorial strategy, utilizing the methodology for building new social landscapes, enables a participatory process involving the residents of each community while also securing investment for the recovery and revitalization of public space.

Tabuu explains that these strategies were developed to establish spaces for coexistence, peace, and new leadership, prioritizing the humanization of public space and the urban landscape. Consequently, pedestrians take center stage in urban life, while motorized vehicles are relegated to a secondary role.

They add that by putting citizens first, positive participation between governing bodies and the community is promoted. This fosters sustainable urban transformation and the enjoyment of the city from a gender-inclusive perspective. Through a "park-city" model, the initiative aims to catalyze collective activities, revitalize and improve shared spaces to enhance safety, and rehabilitate streets to a more human scale by extending the interaction between public and private spaces on ground floors. Finally, it seeks to bridge the boundaries with the urban periphery, restoring its character and coordinating land uses.
