A new edition of the Latin American Architecture Biennial is set to begin on September 28 in Pamplona, Spain. Organized by the AREA association in collaboration with the City Council of Pamplona, the Basque-Navarrese Association of Architects, the University of Navarra, the Government of Navarra, and the Spanish Ministry of Development, this 7th edition will feature 13 emerging architectural practices representing Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Paraguay, and Uruguay.
Over five days, the BAL will host lectures, discussions, and presentations addressing various themes in the Latin American architectural scene. With Peru as this year's guest country, the opening keynote will be delivered by Sharif Kahatt, director of the Architectural Design Department at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru's School of Architecture. Kahatt also curated the exhibition Brutal Poetics: A Century of Realism in Peruvian Architecture, which is featured at the Biennial.
In addition, the event will feature presentations by Marta Maccaglia and Andrés Solano, followed by a lecture on Peruvian heritage architecture by David Mutal, and a discussion on young architecture by Barclay & Crousse. Architect Enrique Ciriani will also represent Peru, delivering a lecture titled My Modernity and later participating in a dialogue with Sharif Kahatt.
