The exhibition “Organic Rational” on the work of architect Pedro Ramalho, curated by Nuno Brandão Costa and drawing on his archive recently donated to Casa da Arquitectura, is on view at the Gallery of Casa da Arquitectura – Portuguese Centre for Architecture, in Matosinhos, until September 8.

The exhibition is based on a selection of ten works by the Porto architect built in the Porto district from the 1960s to the present, showcasing various programs and scales of intervention. According to Nuno Brandão Costa, the exhibition aims to “reveal the importance, singular quality, and coherence of his body of work, demonstrating the physical and conceptual resilience of his buildings and the timelessness of his architecture, impervious to trends, stylistic fads, movements, or critical agendas.”

Much like its creator, the curator adds, “the work is understated, elegant, and rigorous. Pedro Ramalho’s rationalist culture explains the formalization of a geometrically simple architecture of classical origin. Typologically recognizable, designed and proportioned in logical and repetitive programmatic structures, it always hints at an organic root that reflects a specific sensitivity to sites and places at the time of construction.”
