2019 Building of the Year Award: Meet the 15 finalists of the largest award in Lusophone architecture

We are pleased to present today the finalist projects for the 2019 Building of the Year Award (ODA19). After two weeks of nominations and more than 10,000 votes, the favorite projects have been selected from hundreds of works built in Portuguese-speaking countries. Our jury of experts—our own readers—has once again done an outstanding job selecting the 15 finalists. The projects span a remarkable diversity of programs, including cultural, commercial, and educational facilities, public squares, high-end residences, and renovations. This selection offers an engaging overview of contemporary architectural production in Brazil and Portugal, deeply shaped by material exploration, the richness of our geographic contexts, and the diverse challenges faced by our societies.

Among the 15 finalists are 9 Brazilian projects and 6 Portuguese ones. Two firms repeated their strong performance from 2017 and appear as finalists again in 2018. Studio MK27, for example, has two finalist projects this year. The Portuguese firm PROMONTORIO has also been featured among the finalists for two consecutive years.

From today until April 23, you can explore every detail of these projects and vote (once a day) for those you believe are the best examples of contemporary Lusophone architecture. The winners will be announced on April 24, 2019!
